What Defines a Fever?
- Rectal temperature 100.4°F (38°C) or higher
- Babies under 3 months: any fever = immediate medical check
- Older infants: short fevers may be part of natural immune defense
Common Illnesses:
- Colds/Flu → Runny nose, cough, irritability
- Ear Infections → Ear pulling, fussiness, disrupted sleep
- Stomach Bugs → Vomiting, diarrhea, dehydration risk
- Respiratory Illnesses (RSV, Bronchiolitis, etc.) → Wheezing, labored breathing
Seek Medical Care Immediately If:
- Fever in baby under 3 months
- Fever lasting >3 days
- Breathing difficulties, bluish lips/skin
- Persistent vomiting or refusal to feed
